US Involvement In Venezuela

On January 3, 2026 the United States of America launched an attack on the country of Venezuela. The attack known as “Operation Absolute Resolve” was a military operation taken place in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, in order to capture the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro. Various opinions and political outrage have flourished after these attacks, with some people believing it was best for the United States and the people of Venezuela, and others believing it was a violation of international law. There were celebrations, protests, and overall confusion, and this is not the first time these two nations have had disputes as there has been tension since Hugo Chavez was put in office in 2012. One of President Trump’s major goals in his presidency was to pressure Maduro to step down due to his oppressive leadership of his country and what has happened to Venezuela during his rule. Trump has also previously expressed interest in Venezuela’s oil. As it is known, oil is highly valuable to countries economically as it could do wonders on inflation like lowering gas prices for citizens. While the obtaining of this oil would benefit the US greatly, many argue that it is not worth it to break international code and relationship with nations just to obtain oil.

On one side of the spectrum, people think these attacks were beneficial to the American economy and the people of Venezuela. These people think this due to how America will obtain oil from the capture of president Maduro. Those who share this opinion believe that Venezuela has been under oppression by their own government, and needed a change in leadership. This opinion is most common throughout the Venezuelan American population portrayed through major parades and celebrations breaking out in the streets of major cities with Latin American influence like Miami and Los Angeles. Many people of this side viewed Maduro as a communist or a narco-terrorist, who obtained many organizations in drug trafficking that was displacing the region into harmfulness. But as it is known in politics, there are always two sides of the spectrum.

Many people disagree with the first statement and believe these attacks were harmful to the sovereignty of the United States. Their main driving point with this claim is that it was breaking international law. These people believed that America had no right kidnapping another nation’s president no matter what he did or stood for. These people were against the intervention of another country’s government. Hundreds of people who obtained this opinion protested the matter in major cities across America including New York City. Many people believed that this command by Trump was unconstitutional due to how he did not seek approval from congress before committing these attacks. Furthermore, these beliefs were backed by national opinions in Latin American countries like Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and many others who condemned the attacks, stating that it was a threat to peace in Latin America and national sovereignty. The United Nations overall agreed with this opinion of condemning these attacks, as it was not beneficial to peace in the region or between the United States and Venezuela.

Overall, this is American politics at the moment. There are two major opinions to everything that happens with our government and nobody is ever completely satisfied with the actions taken by the government. This is mainly portrayed through frequent protests going on in America right now.
