Season Preview: Varsity Boys Basketball

After a tough loss to Briarcliff High School in the sectional finals last year, your Blind Brook Trojans are back! The team this year consists of six seniors and six juniors after losing a majority of the 2017-2018 team. The two captains are seniors captains Zach Zimmerman and Chris Bucci. The other seniors on the team are Isaac Grodin (the self-proclaimed “Giannis Antetokounmpo of Class B), Mike Abrutyn, Ben Sachs, and Zach Marks have some pretty big shoes to fill. Juniors Ryan Aiello, Joe Kohn, Albert Zottola, Drew Kaye, Spencer Gordon, and Gilad Price have made a great impact on the team and plan to continue working hard.

This new team has already formed a special bond and has set measurable expectations for themselves, both as a team and as individuals. Head Coach Mike Welsh is setting goals simple, attainable goals for the team this year: “The expectation this year is very simple: it’s to get better every day and to be a better team in February than we are today. Don’t get caught up in prediction records.” As the team lives up to Coach Welsh’s words, they focus more on working together as a unit, then focusing on individual stats and individual accomplishments.

Senior captain Chris Bucci looks to lead the team based off of these principles. “Going from losing four starters last year and competing in the section championship, our team this year has different hopes. We want to come out and compete each day and get better as the year goes on. We have a bunch of talent and a bunch of guys who want to win. We have to take this year slowly, game by game and look to compete each day. I think we should be pretty good this year.” The Varsity Boys Basketball Trojans first game is this Friday at 5pm at Rye High School against Sleepy Hollow. Be there to support your Trojans this game and for the whole season!
