The Bond is Passed

On October 22, 2024 the Blind Brook community voted in favor of a $19,500,000 bond with 777 yes votes and 496 no votes. This bond passed with a 65% acceptance rate. The Blind Brook district plans on using this money to make facility improvements over the next several years. Some of the updates on the proposed list include a new baseball field/track, a new scoreboard, an updated HVAC system, and improved high school bathrooms. The Board of Education is excited for the proposed updates. President of the board, Jeff Mensch, said “This bond helps the district reinvest in our facilities and allows us to provide a modern educational space for our students.”

The district plans to use $1.15 million of the Capital Reserve Fund to reduce the amount of debt the school currently holds. The rest of the savings will address other issues that are included in the 5-year plan. Some other ideas include using the capital to purchase soundproofing for the high school Commons, to help with security needs, and to purchase bleachers and dividers for all the gyms. Many of the items on the list of improvements are a result of a 5-year facilities plan that was created in 2021.

There is no clear timeline yet for most of the work, but the district is hopeful that work on the baseball field can start as soon as possible. This would allow the field to be ready for the spring season. The community should look for future updates from the district on which projects will be happening first.
